“Is there nothing you want?” Foltest asked again, his fingers running over the sword set firmly in a vice, its dull blade reflecting nothing but darkness back. “If you keep denying accolades, you’re only going to make the barons lash out more you’re a spy.”
His cheek twitched. “My loyalty to Temeria is proof I’m a spy? What logic is that?”
Foltest briefly smiled. “I can’t ignore them forever, Vernon.”
“You know I need nothing.”
“They don’t know that,” his King sighed. “It’s suspicious you’re not interested in wealth or self-interest.”
“I’m loyal to Temeria,” he snapped. “That’s it.”
