It was just a piece of bread. He didn’t understand the fuss.
Kroener stole more valuable shit than bread all the time and he never got in trouble. In fact, everyone turned a blind eye to it. But as soon as he tried, everyone in the market would turn. Shouting insults, raising fists and makeshift weapons.
How come they got to eat and drink so well? How come his mum had to whore herself?
It wasn’t fair! The beatings weren’t fair. He was hungry and his mum was too and they had nothing. Everyone else had everything. It wasn’t fair!
