“The first rule of the household,” Mrs Hudson began.

Annie, the new maid, bit her lip.  She knew there would be rules, she hoped they wouldn’t be too difficult.

“Is to shout ‘FIRE!’ very loudly if you ever catch Mr Holmes striking a match, or in any other fashion causing a flame of any sort.  Don’t worry if it’s a false alarm, those are easier to deal with than flaming curtains.”

Annie nodded.

“The second rule when I say, ‘Annie, I need’ before six in the evening it’s a cup of tea and after six it’s a glass of gin.”
