Rolf stopped at Data Memory again before leaving town. The technician at reception didn't blame him. She just hoped he wasn't making a mistake by thinking he can rely absolutely on the memory backups, or the clone labs, to get him out of trouble. That's why she'd told him about her secret: the Visiphone she'd hidden in the Biosystems Lab, back when the place had an on-site data memory technician. Outdated and discontinued, it was the only one left off the main grid. She hoped he would never need it. Or that he wouldn't realise too late that he did.
