She didn’t want to admit it, but she was scared.
The river in front of her was the colour of death - white and pale, like her brother’s face had been as he died - and the way it rushed made her shake.
Yet her father’s soldier didn’t seem to care. He stepped into it, bending to feel the current against his bloody hand, and she swallowed in fear. If he got swept away, what would she do?
Why didn’t Aryan come? Why didn’t mother find her?
“Anais,” Roche said and she flinched. He winced at her motion. “It’s alright.”
It wasn’t.
