It had been instinct which had told Lucas North to take cover, seconds before the side of the building collapsed around him.  And when he finally crawled out, having been dug out by the rescuers, battered, bruised, but still alive, it was another instinct which drove him straight into the outstretched arms of Adam Carter.  Neither stopped to give it a second thought but shared the kiss which had been a very long time in coming.

They were unaware of the cheer behind them, or the sound of money changing hands as the winner of the pool claimed their winnings.
