They froze, not daring to breathe. It was an amateur's mistake, setting off a mere mechanical trap. Their gaze swept the uneven stone in search of the snapped wire that alerted them at the very last moment to their error.

In a wide arc, a guillotine blade swung toward them, forcing them to abandon their statuesque position. It was a less elegant movement than they would have preferred, more stumble than leap, but the deadly edge scraped against the leather of their glove rather than the flesh of their fingers. Astra trained a more careful eye on the next door.
