Holmes frequently accuses Lestrade of seeing but not observing, but at the current moment I realised the good inspector had not only seen Holmes pass the glass of whisky to me but had observed him brush his hand against mine.

I turned to look at Lestrade, hoping to judge from his expression what he planned to do.  To my great relief he simply nodded, gave a small smile and a quick shake of his head.  I knew then that this had merely confirmed his suspicions and furthermore that he would continue to act as if there was nothing of note.
