“How’s Lucas?” Adam asked Tariq as he came into the house.

“I am capable of answering for myself,” Lucas replied from the kitchen.  “And I’m fine.”

“Sorry, it’s just you weren’t when I left you.”

“He’s been okay,” Tariq said.  “He spent the first twenty minutes howling as if he’d been abandoned, but a bit of bribery, in the form of a roast chicken, and he settled on the sofa and went to sleep.”

“Which is where I woke up this morning,” Lucas added.  “Since when I haven’t moped at all.”

“Just checked the time every five minutes,” Tariq grinned.
