Thomas sniffed.  “It’s his own fault he’s not wearing any.”

“I think you could be a little more sympathetic,” Pat said.

Lady Button looked down her nose.  “No gentleman should be seen with his legs uncovered.”

Pat looked hurt.

She hastily added, “Unless they are wearing short trousers as part of their uniform.”

“My legs uncovered,” Robin said.

“Well, dear.  You can’t help it trousers weren’t invented in your time.”

Hastily Pat turned to Mary.  “What would you like?”

“I want a dress of seashells and a simple lobster hat.”
