Of course Shion is safe… no enemies are left, now. Nezumi sighs and tosses his note. It misses the rubbish, unfurling in midair to instead settle on the floor. Cravat nudges Nezumi’s fingers; ink stains the soft synthetic fibers beneath his chin.

“You miss him, don’t you?” asks Nezumi, and the mouse seems to nod. It squeaks reprovingly before darting off to fetch the fallen scrap. Nezumi bites back a smile: his mice are becoming rebellious and honest, just like Shion…

Perhaps he can try once again, too.
