“Of course,” Miss Marple said, “it would be easy to say Bobby Westerham was a monster.  But that is to ignore the fact that to begin with all he did was test the boundaries a little, which was excused because ‘everybody does that, don’t they?’.  And then, when he began to take liberties, no-one asked him what he was doing, as he was ‘such a nice chap’.  So when, in the end, he decided to kill the person who stood in his way, he had just taken his earlier behaviour to its logical conclusion.  Yet, everyone else thinks themselves blameless.”
