“It was jealousy of course,” Miss Marple said.  “Emily had always been jealous of her older sister, from when she was a little girl.  She felt that everything Felicity received had been given to her as a right, never considering all the work her sister did to earn it.  So when she, Emily, failed to receive things because she hadn’t made an effort, she was jealous of Felicity’s supposed good fortune.  Then when Brian came along and Felicity took the trouble to listen to him, instead of insisting she be the centre of attention, Emily’s jealousy came to the boil.”
