“Have you heard the latest news, Jane?” Dolly Bantry asked.
“No, why, what’s happened?” Miss Marple looked up from tending her roses.
“The new curate’s left. He’s only been here four months. The vicar says he’s already gone. It’s such a surprise.”
Miss Marple shook her head. “No, dear. It would have been more of a surprise if he’d stayed. Of course, young people are so impetuous nowadays.”
Dolly Bantry gave her friend a rather strange look but didn’t pursue the matter. She wasn’t to know Miss Marple was rejoicing the young man had acted so promptly on her advice.
