“How did you know it was the sister who was responsible?” the inspector asked.

“It was something she herself told me, although I don’t suppose she realised what she’d done,” Miss Marple replied.  “She said that George would do almost anything for a dare.  And then she gave a slight smile, before saying, ‘I only had to say I thought he was too scared to do something and he always did it.’  It was the way she smiled, and I realised she wasn’t thinking back to times when he’d been a small boy, but to something very much more recent.”
