The thud of the meteorite's impact shook the house, woke up the whole neighbourhood. It had been a quiet night apart from that. The animals had fled the scene, although some were now returning and looked... wrong. The police had been summoned out too, had already cordoned off the area. There was more tension around them than usual as well, as they argued with the locals who wanted to investigate the hill where the strange glowing rock still protruded from its impact crater.
Beside the boy, his dog's hackles were raised. That constant whining buzz was getting to them both.
