It’s only love that he feels for Skye. It’ll pass. He can ignore it. His loyalty to Garrett was more important than love. He owed that man everything. He owed the team nothing. He owed Skye nothing, at least that’s what he kept telling himself. He’s HYDRA, not S.H.I.E.L.D.. This was a war and there’s no room for love in war. Ward started sleeping with Melinda, not just to keep her from becoming suspicious of him, but also to keep himself from doing anything stupid. Something that could compromise him. Like falling into bed with Skye. That, he couldn’t risk.
