Sergeant Lake crossed the churchyard and stopped in some surprise at seeing Inspector Slack apparently miming someone knitting and drinking a cup of tea.

“Sir,” he called out, “are you all right?”

“Perfectly, thank you.  I was just imagining trading places with Miss Marple and seeing if I could make any sense of the case.”

Lake nodded.  “Yes, that was what I was coming to tell you.  Miss Marple has come in to see you.  I’ve left her sitting in your chair in the incident room.  Perhaps she’s imagining trading places with you.”

He then departed before Slack could reply.

I think it could work - although I'm not sure about Slack's knitting ability ;)
