“It’s not my fau—” Ayano starts.
It’s not her fault, Sakon’d like to say — agree.
“The circumstances were horrible.” He would say if he were as forgiving as he wished.
Ayano doesn’t understand, but of course she doesn’t; the memories of her brother, Sakon’s father, are too much to bare for him — a son who knew his father not even half his life, let alone the her who idolized the man, hid behind his broad shoulders, cried into his arms, and was raised to completion by him.
He’d like to lie to her — anything, but she isn’t the one dead.
