Written because the charity I volunteer with, Gloucestershire Bundles, received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, to honour all who volunteer.

Who are the true heroes?  Not the ones who rush around saving the world from arch-villains but taking little notice of those who get trampled on the way.  Not the ones who have statues erected in their names and are feted by all and sundry.  No, the true heroes are those who use their time and effort to assist the nameless ones, those at the bottom of the pile, those who society would prefer to ignore.  They don’t work for plaudits or financial reward, but because they see a need and know that they are the ones to meet it.
