“Mr Holmes, Dr Watson, a murder has been committed and it is my duty as a policeman to find the persons responsible for Milverton’s death.  I trust you understand this,” Inspector Lestrade said.  “I am sure I can rely on you to provide any information pertinent to the case.”

Holmes nodded his head.  “Of course you can, inspector.”

He stood up.  “Since you are unable to provide any assistance, I shall wish you a good day.  A very good day indeed.” 

“He knows, Holmes,” I exclaimed as soon as he had left.

“And is taking it no further,” Holmes replied.
