Wei Wuxian waited outside the infirmary. He’d been unable to stand the heart-breaking noises Jiang Cheng kept making, even once he’d calmed. The healers assured him the yao’s poison wouldn’t damage the Jiang Sect Leader permanently. But that was faint consolation. He kept hearing Jiang Cheng beg not to be cut open again. By him.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji pleaded, “Rest.”
“Not until I know he’ll make it.”
Jin Ling emerged, Wei Wuxian saw the temptation in the youth to stab him with a sword. He’d have allowed it. But the red-eyed boy merely glared, then stomped away.
