The boat made its annual visit, arriving in an even worse state than usual. The most dangerous prisoner had escaped, was possibly loose on his island, along with the Agency's dogs of bounty hunters.
It was supposed to be his birthday...
Once again, the little things in life reminded him that he was as much a prisoner on the island as any of the actual inmates. No, more so - some of them survived to finish their sentences. He had to be here. He ran the godforsaken place.
Sometimes it really did feel like time didn't move forward any more.
