Sherlock Holmes (ACD): In The Crypt

When we entered the crypt the two candles on the side ledge barely served to illuminate the area.  I waited whilst Holmes made his way towards the far end, the candlelight casting grotesque shadows as he went.

Holmes came to a halt and bent down to examine something on the ground.  He called out for some light and I took up one of the candles, carrying it carefully so as not to extinguish it.  As I brought it over, I saw Holmes was inspecting the corpse of Mordecai Murdoch, petty thief and the reason for our presence in the crypt.
