Alenca didn’t expect to find an elf on the beach. She thought he was a man at first, but when she checked his pulse she noticed his ears were pointed. He was pale, too. Far paler than anyone she’d ever seen before.
He smelt like salt and seaweed. His fine clothes were crusted with sea-salt, like he was a treasure the ocean had stolen and spat back out. He didn’t have the lustre of treasure, though—he looked unwell.
She’d move him before the tide took him back. Another mouth, but there must be reason—and Alenca would learn it.
