Notes: Just a moment to stop and breathe.
The night was clear and calm. Jiang Cheng sat on the dock, his bare feet grazing the surface of the lake. These were the times to savor. A hard day’s work behind him and a good night sleep in front of him. Things weren’t so dire anymore. His people were fed and clothed. They could see progress being made.
He was grateful. His people deserved better. And even if all the losses he’d suffered were a gaping chasm in his heart, he could appreciate these moments. He could still see a better future ahead, for his people if not himself.
