Notes: Set in everyone's favourite handwavey post-drama-canon. (Haven't done strict 100-word drabbles in a while, ha, but here goes.)

“Your fault, really,” Da Qing wheezes. “Could’ve just gotten a pet in your midlife crisis like any human but noooooo, you had to adopt an entire department of misfits!”

So much for eternal loyalty. Yunlan gives up glaring and turns to the one person who at least only brings the fun kind of trouble.

Shen Wei doesn’t pause in his marking. “I wouldn’t presume to judge, seeing as mine would’ve been five millennia ago.”

The double whammy of betrayal and wonderment at Shen Wei making a joke sends Yunlan spiralling. “Xiao Wei!”

Da Qing falls off the desk, still laughing.
