The grimoire, from all that you've heard of it, is filled with forbidden knowledge. To read its glyphs, and to interpret them correctly, is not allowed.
As you secretly peer through its pages, you're not sure why that could be. What you're trying to read seems harmless enough.
But then the glyphs begin to glow, and your skin burns where their light reflects on you. Closing the book does nothing to help you; it's too late.
As you gradually become ash, you realize why the book was banned. The book itself has no desire to be read, and acts accordingly.
