Beneath the surface, Ross isn't particularly surprised when Emily rejects him.
She had a right to be angry at their wedding, when he said Rachel's name instead of hers. Who wouldn't be hurt and jealous, after something like that?
But, now that he thinks about it, if Emily loves him so much, she should be able to forgive him. Emily has no reason to be so scared of his friendship with Rachel. He doesn't resent any exes Emily might have had. The past ought to be the past.
Perhaps it's for the best. Rushed infatuations aren't the same as love.
