Seth and I watched as two of the village lads enthusiastically, if not entirely expertly, laid the mulch on the flower beds they had recently dug.  I always feel a tinge of sadness in the late autumn when the trees lose their leaves and my annuals die off, but then they are allowed to decay during the cold winter months so that as soon as spring had arrived the mulch they have formed can be spread onto my new beds.  And with that will come the promise of new growth and so the circle of life will continue once again.
