Title: Murder is a Piece of Cake
Fandom: Miss Marple - Agatha Christie
Rating: Gen
Notes: Based on "The Tuesday Night Club" and should be consider SPOILER for that work.
“The hundreds and thousands were poisoned,” said Miss Marple. “The companion wouldn’t have had dessert, and the coarse husband would’ve just scraped the pink sugar bits off, leaving his wife to consume a lethal dose of strychnine.”
“That’s dreadful, Jane!” cried Dolly Bantry.
Miss Marple nodded. “That he abandoned his accomplice, the poor maid whom he’d gotten with child, only confirms his villainous nature.”
Dolly set her cup in saucer and brought her fork to her lips.
“Murder can be,” said Miss Marple “a piece of cake.”
Dolly frowned, her lips having just closed round a mouthful of Victoria Sponge.

Love Miss Marple, and you have her understated timing beautifully here.
I must admit I'm missing the Thursday Murder Club reference, so possibly not as much of a spoiler as you think?

Date: 2022-02-26 04:55 pm (UTC)I miswrote the title, so the error is mine. It's "The Tuesday Night Club." [not Thursday Murder Club which is the modern Orman novel, I muddled them in my head as I just finished reading the sequel]. It was the first story in the Thirteen Problems short story collection: https://agathachristie.fandom.com/wiki/The_Tuesday_Night_Club
