“It seems such a shame to destroy the poor boy’s dreams,” Dolly Bantry said.  “He’s been on cloud nine all morning.”

“Unfortunately, that is why they found it so easy to dupe him,” Jane Marple replied.  “He was so happy he failed to notice what his new fiancée’s brother was up to.  At least we were here and able to watch what was going on.”

“Somehow I don’t think our presence was as accidental as you made it appear.”

“Perhaps not,” Miss Marple agreed.  “And now we must tell him the cloud he’s on is nothing but a rain cloud.”

I do find it amusing, Miss Marple strategically placing herself to get the goods on somebody.
