What is 100words?

100words is a weekly drabble challenge community originally hosted on Imzy and now here on Dreamwidth. Every Tuesday a new prompt is posted -- a word, picture, phrase, quotation -- and members are invited to respond with a drabble (fiction that is exactly 100 words in length).

Do I have to include the prompt in my reply?

No. The prompt is merely a means to get your creative juices flowing.

Seriously, what if my drabble doesn't include the prompt?

Not a problem. The prompt is merely there to inspire you to write 100 words.

What if I write more than 100 words?

Please limit your responses to 100 words in length. There are other communities for fiction under and over 100 words, such as fandomweekly.

How do I participate?

Please post your fiction to the community, indicating in the tag which prompt you are answering. We started with Prompt #25 on Dreamwidth because that's where 100 Words on Imzy was at.

What if I miss a prompt?

No worries! Every tenth week is an Amnesty Week, when all previous prompts are fair game.

Can I post fanfic/original fic?

All fiction is welcome at 100words. Please indicate the fandom in your post, or whether it is original fiction. Content warnings for potential triggers, mature or explicit content, or spoilers are also expected.

Do I need to include content warnings, ratings, and spoilers?

Yes. Please see the question above.

Is there an AO3 collection?

There is! You can find the AO3 collection here and can include your work in the collection by choosing 100words in the "Post to Collections / Challenges" field.

You can either post it in response to the prompt, or post your drabble in the community and use the appropriate prompt tag. Either way is good!

Amnesty week comes every 10th week. New challenges are posted Tuesday mornings EST (US). I (generally) pin the current challenge to the community page so it is the second entry after this welcome post (sometimes I forget...).

I was wondering, depending on which software we use, the word count is always a bit different. Do you have an "official" word counter website, or do we go by 100-for-whichever-text-editor-we-use, or maybe AO3's count?

100-for-whichever-text-editor-we-use is fine. AO3 is our unofficial word counter, but nobody will jump on you if you are over or under by a word or two because of your software.

„Gabe has invited me to a movie. I guess it's a peace-offering and I shouldn't turn it down.“

„Guys like Gabe will never change!“

„That's what people said about you, too. But that was before Marybeth.“

„Fine,“ Zeke finally gave in.
„But you will call me, as soon as you are back home. And when he has dared to touch you again...“

Casey smiled. He was sure that the friction between him and the jocks was over, but it felt good to know that Zeke was worrying about him.

When is the next amnesty round? I've been mining some of the old prompts - there's gold there! Can we post to old prompts prior to an amnesty week, or do we need to wait until we can post in the comm first? Thanks!

Every 10th week is Amnesty Week, and I ask that you wait until then to publish drabbles in response to old prompts. Tomorrow will be prompt #106, so the next Amnesty Week is #110.

During Amnesty Week you can post as many prompts as you like in separate posts. Members of the community are used to an increase in activity on their reading list during Amnesty Week because sometimes people get inspired! :)

He was not convinced. „Maybe we could go to our favorite bar instead? You love singing karaoke.“

I've an idea which fits both this week's prompt and the current fan-flashworks prompt - however, until their round is closed, they only allow linking from elsewhere to a post in their community.
