The Ferret was in love again.  No-one was surprised since this generally happened about once a fortnight, or, if the household were very lucky, once every three weeks.  That it was unrequited was also apparent to all within earshot because he was currently loudly bewailing, ‘Why must I be a mustelid in love?’

“Is there any particular reason why he’s insisting on singing at the top of his voice?” Aemelia Vole asked.

“Something about Shakespeare and music being the food of love, I believe,” Poley the Moley replied.  “I’m not entirely convinced.”

“Well frankly, he’s giving me indigestion,” Mouselet commented.
