Notes: Mother and child are reunited. Inspired by a news story my sister sent me of a rescued baby sloth reunited with its mother.


“Oh,” said Sloth.

“Oh,” said Mother Sloth.

Sherlock Holmes returned the child to the arms of the joyfully weeping mother while the entire staff of the Marylebone Monthly Illustrated, editors, subeditors, guest contributors, and fervent supports, looked on.

Handkerchiefs dabbed eyes. Ferret blew his nose in a napkin.

“Do you remember when as just a wee thing you fell from the tree and the nice human worked very hard to bring you back to me?” asked Mother Sloth.

“No, Mother.”

“Well, I do, and that mother will, too. She will always remember the joy of being reunited with her child.”
