Title: Bless Me With Peace
Fandom: The Angel of the Crows - Katherine Addison
Characters: The Angel of the Great Synagogue of London
Rating: T
Notes: Title from the Shabbat hymn Shalom Aleichem. CW: implied/referenced anti-Semitism.

The Angel of the Great Synagogue of London is always pleased when Friday evening comes. Not only because of Shabbat, but because his people return to gather here under his sight, under his wings. London is not always kind to the Jews.

The angel can protect them under this roof for as long as the building stands. He does not think it is in danger of destruction, here and now. He knows other synagogues, and their angels, have not always been so fortunate.

The worshippers sing joyously, welcoming the Sabbath Bride. The angel spreads his wings and is at peace.

Historical Note: The Great Synagogue of London was destroyed in the Blitz in 1941. I don't know whether Katherine Addison had that in mind when she wrote its angel. (The novel is set in 1888.)
