Barb swung her legs, feeling the diving board move under her and watching the mist twine over the surface of the pool. She rubbed her hand, the edge of the bandage rough.

“How could she-?” she thought angrily, shaking her head. “I thought we were friends, that she cared about me. I don’t even know her anymore.” A tear ran down her cheek and fell into the expectant water. She rubbed her hand again, grimacing as she felt the bandage grow damp.

“All I am to her is a sidekick, a minor character,” she thought. “I deserve more than this.”
