The Silmarillion/The Hobbit (Tolkien) - A Hint in Time

Title: A Hint in Time
Author: Zdenka
Fandom: The Silmarillion - JRR Tolkien/The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
Characters: Aulë, Yavanna, The Thrush (The Hobbit)
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Challenge: Amnesty Week XXX / #86. Serendipity
Notes: The one thing I don't quite get about the secret door is how anyone could know that a thrush would be there at the right moment ("Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks" was written on the map in moon-letters). Maybe Thorin's Company had a little help?

Summary: Aulë gives events a small nudge.

“My love, I would like a favor of you,” Aulë said. It was Durin’s Day in Middle-earth; Aulë could feel it, though the Moon had not yet risen above the horizon to join the setting Sun.

“What is it?” Yavanna asked, slightly suspicious.

“Your trees are safe,” Aulë assured her. “It is a small thing, and entirely in your domain. I would simply like for a bird to catch a snail.”

And an old black thrush, who remembered the voices and kind hands of Dwarves from long ago, knocked his prey sharply against the grey stone by Erebor’s secret door.
