"Steady, men," Micky whispered. "Be patient; our target's in sight..." They waited a few tense minutes. Then, at last, "Open fire," Micky shouted, guiding the charge.
It wasn't until their projectiles were well away that he realized just who their target was.
His eyes were huge. "Oh, no," he whispered, before beating a hasty retreat.
Later, Mike recounted to an amused Peter and Davy what he'd been lucky enough to witness. "I'll bet Micky must've beat the land-speed record, gettin' away before Babbitt could find out he was the one leadin' the neighbor kids in that water-balloon ambush!"
