"Well, Poirot, what do you think?  I’d say this is a pretty clear-cut case.  Walters was blackmailing Hunter, who decided to put a stop to it, by shooting him,” Inspector Japp said.

“But no, my dear Japp.  That Walters was a blackmailer is not in question.  But that Hunter was responsible, that is not so clear.  If Walters is blackmailing one man, then he may well be blackmailing others, any of whom may have decided to take that particular way out of their difficulty.”

“I suppose you’re right.  I had hoped that for once it would be a straightforward case.”
