“This is a Hallowe’en party,” she replied, “and, although costumes were optional, Lucas thought it was too good an opportunity to miss. He is, you might say, hiding in plain sight.”

“He’s wearing a sheet!”

“A spook disguised as a spook. Its also a perfect cover for a microphone.”

Later, Harry, rather sceptically, asked Malcolm whether Lucas’ idea had worked.

“Oh yes. We’ve heard several conversations we wouldn’t have had the ghost of a chance hearing otherwise.”
