“I’m sorry to trouble you, madam,” the constable said. “We’ve had a report that one of those Suffragette women came in here.”
“Do I look like someone who would allow such a person entrance?” Mrs Hudson demanded.
“No, madam. I’ll leave you to your baking.”
Mrs Hudson returned to her kitchen. “It’s all right, Violet,” she said, “he’s gone. Another constable who hasn’t learnt that appearances can be deceptive. But I suggest you leave by the back door to be safe.”
