Title: Sweet Lullabies
Author: Zdenka
Fandom: The Silmarillion
Rating: T
Characters: Húrin, Urwen Lalaith
Challenge: Amnesty Week XXXII / #001 - sweet
Notes/Warnings: Major Character Death, child death
Summary: Húrin plays the harp for his daughter.
Húrin takes up his harp to play for his daughter: merry marches, lively dance tunes that make Lalaith giggle, gentle lullabies like the ripple of water to carry her softly into sleep. He has a warrior’s hands, calloused from the war-axe, but for her he plays sweetly.
When Lalaith dies, Húrin tries to play a lament: one last song for his little one. But his fingers falter and his voice catches in his throat. He breaks his harp, and there is no more music.
There are no lullabies for Nienor. Húrin is gone, and Morwen has no heart to sing.
