Jiang Wanyin regarded the old woman with her dagger-like fingernails dug into Jin Ling’s neck. The ancient yao, disguised as a granny, grinned at him with rotting teeth. In her free hand, a pair of rusty-stained bone dice clattered against each other.

“What do you say, Sect Leader? Will you take the bargain? A simple wager and I’ll let the whelp live.”

“Leave my jiujiu alone!” Jin Ling shouted.

“Just take me. Let him go,” Jiang Wanyin ordered. “No bargain necessary.”

The yao raised surprised eyebrows. “Giving in so quickly, Sect Leader? Now what fun would that be?”
