“Come over here, my dear,” Gerald said. “No-one will take any notice of us at the far side of the lounge.” He took Stella’s elbow and gently guided her away from the group drinking their after-lunch coffee.

“Are you sure this is safe?” she asked him. She checked; there was no-one else present except an elderly lady, asleep over her knitting.

“Oh yes. Meet me behind the tennis courts in half an hour. We can slip away before your husband even realises.”

Gerald departed and Miss Marple’s voice said, “I really don’t think that’s a good idea, do you, dear?”
