It had been nine months of waiting; all the thoughts, the worries, helpful advice from family and friends, unhelpful advice from family and friends, planning and preparation.  And waiting.  Waiting at the clinic to see the midwife.  Waiting to see the doctor.  Waiting at the bus stop because walking home was far too tiring.  But now, now that the baby was on his or her way, there was no more waiting.  Not for her.  Now it was her husband who was doing the waiting, sitting outside in the corridor.  And he wasn’t going to need to wait for very long.
