Ros answered the phone and said, “Right.  We’ll be over there at once.”

“What’s happened?” Lucas asked.

“It’s Lucy Wellington, she’s been rushed to hospital.”

“I’ll drive,” Lucas said, picking up his keys.

Later Lucas phoned Harry.  “It doesn’t look good, I’m afraid.  She was a fanatic by nature, and not just with her allegiances.  She was determined to get as fit as possible and drove her body too far.  The doctors say she will recover in time.”

“Not soon enough for us.  And we’ll need to find someone else, she’ll be too unreliable.”

“Poor girl.”

“She made her choice.”
