“You’re like my work husband,” Matt’s voice crackles over the phone.
“Exactly. You’re my work husband,” Pred agrees enthusiastically.
He can imagine the expression on Rhodes’ face the short silence that follows as he realizes his mistake. When he finally speaks, it’s with a hesitance. “Maybe we shouldn’t… word it like that.”
“Nah, nah, I think that’s it,” Pred keeps pushing, knowing full well what he’s doing. “I think that’s the perfect way to put it.” It’s childish, and it's immature, and he knows it, but Pred is a childish person, so he does it anyway. “You’re my work husband.”
