Spike had always known he was important, being hand reared from a chick had convinced him of that.  And his popularity at the Birdland Park and Gardens had never been in question, making him a well-known penguin throughout the Cotswolds.

But now, being presented with the award as the world’s most popular flightless bird, really showed that he wasn’t just a king penguin, but the king penguin.  He had prepared a suitable acceptance speech, but he realised that the adoring crowd wouldn’t understand, so instead he simply acknowledged the loud applause of the adoring crowd and waited for his fish.
