As the world seemed to come apart at the seams, tumbling down around him, Jiang Cheng could not help but hold on to hope. Not a single speck of dust so much as touched his robes. The falling rogues, the tumbling stones, and the trembling earth did not injure him at all.
Everything shook for what felt like hours but he knew it could have only been minutes. Perhaps seconds.
When it stopped, fresh air surrounded Jiang Cheng. Dappled sunlight touched his face for the first time in days.
He opened his eyes to see, far above, a forest canopy.
